행 9:4-6 … 그에게 “사울아, 사울아, 네가 왜 나를 박해하느냐?”라고 하는 음성이 들렸다. 그래서 그가 “주님, 누구십니까?”라고 하니, 주님께서 말씀하셨다. “나는 네가 박해하는 예수다.”일어나 시내로 들어가거라. 그러면 네가 해야 할 일을 말해 줄 사람이 있을 것이다.”

17 아나니아가 … 사울에게 안수하며 “사울 형제님, 형제님이 오던 길에 형제님에게 나타나신 예수님, 곧 주님께서 나를 보내시어, 형제님이 시력을 되찾을 수 있도록 하시고 성령으로 충일되도록 하셨습니다.”라고 하자,

Acts 9:4-5……Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? And he said, Who are You, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus, whom you persecute. But rise up and enter into the

city, and it will be told to you what you must do.

17 ……And laying his hands on him, he said, Saul, brother, the Lord has sent me……so that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

사울은 예수님께서 죽고 부활하신 여호와 구원자이신 것을 보았을 뿐 아니라, 주 예수님께서 그분을 따르는 사람들과 하나이신 것도 보았다. … 이렇게 사울은 몸을 보게 되었다. … 주님은 사울에게 나타나셨을 때 “네가 왜 나(=몸 그리스도 or 단체적인 그리스도)를 박해하느냐?”라고 물으셨다(행 9:4). 주님은 이렇게 말씀하시는 것 같았다. “사울아, 이 ‘나’는 개인적으로 나를 포함하고 단체적으로 나의 몸을 포함한다. 개인적으로 나는 하늘에 있지만, 단체적으로 이 몸은 땅 위에 있다. 네가 나를 따르는 이들을 박해했을 때 그것은 나의 몸을 박해한 것이다. 나의 몸을 박해하는 것은 나를 박해하는 것이다.” 그러므로 9장 4절에서 ‘나’는 단체적인 것으로서, 주 예수님과 그분의 모든 믿는 이들로 구성된다.

단체적인 ‘나’, 곧 그리스도와 교회에 대한 사울의 체험은 틀림없이 그에게 깊은 인상을 심어 주었고, 그리스도와 교회에 관한 그의 장래 사역에 큰 영향을 끼쳤을 것이다. 그 체험은 그의 사역에 기초를 놓아 주었다. 그러므로 그는 매우 강하게 그리스도의 몸에 대하여 가르쳤다(롬 12:4-5, 고전 12:12-27, 엡 1:22-23, 2:16, 4:4, 16). 그는 신약에서 ‘그리스도의 몸’이란 용어를 사용한 유일한 저자이다. 그는 회심했을 때 단체적인 ‘나’, 곧 그리스도의 몸에 관한 메시지를 들었기 때문에 몸을 크게 강조했던 것이다. Saul not only saw that Jesus is Jehovah, the Savior, who died and was resurrected; he also saw that the Lord Jesus is one with His followers.……In this way Saul came to see the Body.……When the Lord appeared to Saul, He asked him, “Why are you persecuting Me?” [Acts 9:4]. The Lord seemed to be saying, “Saul, this ‘Me’ includes Me personally and My Body corporately. Personally I am in the heavens, but corporately the Body is on earth. When you persecuted My followers, you persecuted My Body. To persecute My Body is to persecute Me.” Therefore, the “Me” in 9:4 is corporate, comprising the Lord Jesus and all His believers.

Saul’s experience of the corporate Me, Christ and the Body, must have made a deep impression on him and affected his future ministry regarding Christ and the church. That experience laid the foundation for his ministry. Therefore, he was very strong in teaching the Body of Christ (Rom. 12:4-5; 1 Cor. 12:12-27; Eph. 1:22-23; 2:16; 4:4, 16). He is the only writer in the New Testament to use the term “the Body of Christ.” He placed great emphasis on the Body because at the time of his conversion he heard a message concerning the corporate Me, a message concerning the Body of Christ. 사울이 구원받은 직후에 주님은 몸에 관해 그를 교육하기 시작하셨다. 주님께서 사울에게 “일어나 시내로 들어가거라. 그러면 네가 해야 할 일을 말해 줄 사람이 있을 것이다.”(행 9:6)라고 말씀하신 것은 바로 이 때문이었다. 여기서 주님은 이렇게 말씀하시는 듯했다. “사울아, 나는 네가 무엇을 해야 하는지 말하지 않겠다. 너는 내가 직접 구원하였기 때문에 다른 사람은 네가 구원받았다는 것을 알지 못하고 있다. 그러므로 너에게는 나의 몸의 대표자가 와서 내가 너를 구원했고 선택했고 불렀다는 사실을 확증해 줄 필요가 있다. 또한 너에게는 나의 몸의 대표자가 네가 몸과 동일시되도록 너를 이끌어 줄 필요가 있다.”

주님은 아나니아를 보내셔서 사울을 만나게 하셨다. 아나니아는 사울을 만났을 때 그가 주님 안에서 형제라는 것을 인정했다(행 9:17). 만일 주님께서 아나니아에게 사울을 찾아보라고 말씀하지 않으셨다면, 믿는 이들 중 누구도 사울을 형제로 인정하려고 하지 않았을 것이다. 주님은 아나니아를 통해서 사울에게 몸의 생활의 실행에 관한 뛰어난 교훈을 주셨다.

사도행전 9장 17절에서 아나니아는 사울에게 이렇게 말했다. “사울 형제님, 형제님이 오던 길에 형제님에게 나타나신 예수님, 곧 주님께서 나를 보내시어, 형제님이 시력을 되찾을 수 있도록 하시고 성령으로 충일되도록 하셨습니다.” 여기서의 충일은 경륜적인 영의 외적 충일이다. 9장에 나오는 사울의 경우와 8장에 나오는 사마리아인들의 경우에서 몸의 머리는 경륜적인 영을 보류하셨다.

사울은 앞장서서 교회를 박해하던 사람이었다. … 이러한 그가 주님께 돌이키고 구원받았다는 것을 누가 믿겠는가? 주님의 구원을 받았을 때 바울은 자기 속에 본질적인 영을 받았다. 그러나 몸의 머리는 몸을 대표하는 사람이 사울에게 와서 안수할 때까지 경륜적인 영을 보류하셨다. 그러나 이제 몸을 대표하는 사람이 사울에게 안수하였을 때, 사울이 구원받았고 머리이신 분께서 그를 한 지체로 몸 안으로 받으셨다는 사실에 대한 강한 증거로 경륜적인 영께서 그 위에 임하셨다. (사도행전 라이프 스타디, 메시지 26, 215-216쪽)

만약 우리가 그리스도인이 다만 하나의 지체에 불과하다는 것을 안다면 우리는 교만하지 않을 것이다. 모든 것은 보는 것에 달려 있다. 자신이 몸의 지체라는 것을 본 사람들은 몸을 소중히 여기고 다른 지체들을 존중한다. 그들은 더 이상 자신의 좋은 점만을 보지 않고, 다른 사람을 자신보다 낫게 여길 것이다. (그리스도의 비밀, 33쪽)

Immediately after Saul was saved, the Lord began to educate him concerning the Body. This was the reason He said to Saul, “Rise up and enter into the city, and it will be told to you what you must do” (Acts 9:6). Here the Lord seemed to be saying, “Saul, I shall not tell you what you need to do. You have been saved directly by Me, and no other person knows that you have been saved . Therefore, you need a representative of My Body to come to you and confirm the fact that I have saved you, chosen you, and called you. You also need such a representative of the Body to bring you into the identification with My Body.”

[The Lord sent Ananias] to contact Saul. In his contact with Saul, Ananias recognized him as a brother in the Lord (v. 17). If the Lord had not told Ananias to seek out Saul, none of the believers would have recognized Saul as a brother. Through Ananias the Lord gave Saul excellent instruction concerning the practice of the Body life.

In Acts 9:17 Ananias said to Saul, “The Lord has sent me?- Jesus, who appeared to you on the road on which you were coming?-so that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” The filling here is the outward filling with the economical Spirit. Both in the case of Saul in chapter nine and in the case of the Samaritans in chapter eight, the Head of the Body withheld the economical Spirit.

Saul was a leading persecutor of the church.……Who would ever believe that he had turned to the Lord and had been saved? When Paul received the Lord’s salvation, he also received the essential Spirit within him. However, the Head of the Body held back the economical Spirit until a representative of the Body came to Saul and laid his hands on him. At that juncture, the economical Spirit came upon him as strong evidence of the fact that he had been saved and had been accepted by the Head into the Body as a member. (Life-study of Acts, pp. 214-215)

If we realize that a Christian is nothing more than a member, we will no longer be proud. Everything depends on our seeing. Those who see that they are members will surely treasure the Body and honor the other members. They will not see just their own virtues; they will readily see others as being better than themselves.
