행 9:15 … 이 사람은 이방인들과 왕들과 이스라엘 자손들 앞에서 내 이름을 전하기 위하여 나에게 선택된 그릇이다.

롬 9:23 하나님께서 또 영광에 이르도록 예비하신 긍휼의 그릇들에 대하여 그분의 영광의 풍성을 알게 하고자 하셨을지라도 어찌하겠습니까?

엡 3:19 … 하나님의 모든 충만에 이르도록 여러분이 충만하게 되기를 바랍니다.

Acts 9:15 …This man is a chosen vessel to Me, to bear My name before both the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel.

Rom. 9:23 In order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory.

Eph. 3:19 …That you may be filled unto all the fullness of God

사도행전 9장 15절에서 우리는 다소의 사울이 선택된 그릇임을 볼 수 있다. 성경을 읽을 때, 우리는 중요한 영적 용어인 ‘그릇’이란 말을 주목하지 않을지도 모른다. 그릇이란 담는 용기이므로 도구나 무기와 다르다.

바울의 서신서들은 그릇의 중요성을 강하게 강조한다. … 로마서 9장 23절은 하나님께서 “영광에 이르도록 예비하신 긍휼의 그릇들에 대하여 그분의 영광의 풍성을 알게 하고자 하셨다.”라고 말한다. 로마서 9장에서 우리는 하나님께서 사람을 하나님을 담는 그릇으로 창조하셨다는 사상을 본다. 고린도후서 4장 7절에서 바울은 또다시 그릇에 대해 말한다. “우리는 이 보배를 질그릇 속에 담고 있습니다. 이것은 그 탁월한 능력이 하나님께 속한 것이며 우리에게서 나오는 것이 아니라는 것을 나타내시려는 것입니다.” 그런 다음 디모데후서 2장 20절에서 바울은 “그렇지만 큰 집에는 금그릇과 은그릇이 있을 뿐 아니라, 나무그릇과 질그릇도 있습니다. 그래서 어떤 것은 귀하게 되고 어떤 것은 천하게 됩니다.”라고 말한다.

다소의 사울이 주님께 선택된 것은 다만 그분의 사도, 그분의 종, 그분의 사역자가 되기 위한 것이었을 뿐 아니라 그분의 그릇이 되기 위한 것이었다. 사도행전 9장 15절에서 주 예수님은 아나니아에게 이렇게 말씀하시는 것 같다. “사울은 선택된 그릇이다. 그는 나를 담을 것이요, 그의 사역은 나를 이방 세계에 전달해 주는 것이다.” 우리 모두 사울이 선택된 그릇이라는 것의 중요성을 보아야 한다. (사도행전 라이프 스타디, 메시지 26, 217-218쪽)

In Acts 9:15 we see that Saul of Tarsus was a chosen vessel. In reading the Scriptures we may not pay adequate attention to the word “vessel,”an important spiritual term. A vessel is a container and therefore is different from a tool or a weapon.

In the Epistles of Paul there is a strong emphasis on the importance of vessels. …Romans 9:23 speaks of God making known “the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory.” In Romans 9 we have the thought that human beings were made by God to be vessels to contain Him. In 2 Corinthians 4:7 Paul again speaks of vessels: “We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” Then in2 Timothy 2:20 he says, “In a great house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also wooden and earthen, and some unto honor, and some unto dishonor.”

Saul of Tarsus was chosen by the Lord not only to be His apostle, His servant, and His minister; he was also chosen to be His vessel. In Acts 9:15 the Lord Jesus seemed to be saying to Ananias, “Saul is a chosen vessel. He will contain Me, and his ministry will be to convey Me to the Gentile world.”We all need to see the importance of Saul being a chosen vessel. (Life-study of Acts, pp. 216-217)

두 개의 병을 예로 들어 보자. 이 병들의 목적은 어떤 음료를 담는 것이다. 한 병은 더럽고 다른 한 병은 깨끗할 수 있으나, 병들은 단지 깨끗하게 되도록 만들어진 것은 아니다. 병들은 어떤 음료를 담기 위해 만들어졌다. 마찬가지로, 하나님은 단지 많은 ‘깨끗한 사람’만 있기를 갈망하지 않으신다. 하나님께서 얻고자 하시는 것은 그리스도로 충만한 많은 사람들이다. 그분은 종교인들이 아닌 그리스도인들을 원하신다. 그리스도인은 그리스도-사람, 그리스도로 충만한 사람, 그리스도와 연합한 사람, 그리스도 안에 잠긴 사람이다. 세계 도처에서 그리스도인을 만나기는 비교적 쉬우나 그리스도로 채워지고 그리스도 자신을 목표로 삼는 그리스도인을 만나기란 쉽지 않다. 일하는 많은 그리스도인, 종교적인 그리스도인들, 그리스도를 위해 활동하는 활동적인 그리스도인들을 만나기는 가능하나, 그리스도와 하나 되고 그리스도로 채워지고 그리스도께만 점유된 그리스도인들을 만나기는 쉽지 않다.

나는 다소의 사울이 유대교를 위해 일했듯이 많은 사람들이 종교적인 조직을 위해 일할 수 있다는 인상을 받았다. 우리는 종교를 위해 일하면서 그리스도와 무관할 수도 있다. 나는 주님께서 우리의 눈을 열어 주셔서 하나님의 계획이 그분의 아들을 우리 안에 계시하심으로 우리가 그분의 아들과 같은 형상을 이루도록 하는 것임을 보여 주시기를 원한다. 하나님의 의도와 계획은 우리가 종교적이거나 선하거나 영적이거나 성경 지식을 많이 아는 것이 아니다. 하나님의 계획은 우리가 그리스도로 채워지고 그리스도로 점유되고 그리스도의 소유가 되며 그리스도로 적셔지고 그리스도로 충만하며 그리스도와 섞여지고 연합되는 것이다. 바로 이러한 이유 때문에 바울이 빌립보서 3장 7절과 8절에서 “그러나 나에게 유익이 되었던 것을 나는 그리스도 때문에 해로운 것으로 여기게 되었습니다. 그럴 뿐만 아니라 내가 모든 것을 또한 해로운 것으로 여기는 것은 내 주 그리스도 예수님을 아는 지식이 가장 탁월한 것이기 때문입니다. 내가 그리스도 때문에 모든 것을 해로운 것으로 여기고, 그 모든 것을 배설물로 여깁니다. 그래서 내가 그리스도를 얻고,”라고 말한 것이다. 바울은 우주 안에서 얻어야 할 유일한 것이 그리스도 자신이라는 것을 깨닫게 되었다. 그에게 그리스도는 모든 것의 실재였다. 그리스도 이외의 그 무엇도 그에게 실재가 아니었다.

하나님의 계획은 그리스도를 우리 안에 넣는 일을 하는 것이므로, 우리는 우리 생활의 전반에 걸쳐 많은 전환이 필요하다. 우리의 생활에서 그리스도를 대치하는 것이 있을 때마다 우리는 바로 그것에서 그리스도 자신께 전환하는 것이 필요하다. 우리는 항상 그리스도와의 직접적인 접촉 안에 머물러야 한다. 그때 우리는 실재로 그리스도와 하나일 것이다. (하나님의 계획 안에 있는 젊은이, 34-35, 37쪽)

[Consider two bottles.] The purpose of these bottles is to contain some kind of beverage. One bottle may be dirty and the other may be clean, but the bottles were not made merely to be clean. They were made to be filled with a certain beverage. In like manner, God does not merely desire to have many “clean people.” What God wants to have is many people filled with Christ. He does not want religious people but Christians. A Christian is a Christman, a man filled with Christ, a man mingled with Christ, a man lost in Christ. All over the world, it is relatively easy to meet Christians, but it is not so easy to meet some Christians who are filled with Christ and whose goal is Christ Himself. It is possible to meet many working Christians, religious Christians, and active Christians who act for Christ, yet it is not so easy to meet some Christians who are one with Christ, filled with Christ, and occupied solely by Christ.

I have the impression that many may be working for a religious system just like Saul of Tarsus worked for Judaism. You may be working for religion and have nothing to do with Christ. I hope that the Lord has opened our eyes to see that God’s plan is to reveal His Son in us so that we can be conformed to the image of His Son. God’s intention and God’s plan is not for us to be religious, good, spiritual, or knowledgeable of the Scriptures, but God’s plan is for us to be filled with Christ, to be occupied, possessed, saturated, permeated, blended, and mingled with Christ. This is why Paul tells us in Philippians 3:7-8, “But what things were gains to me, these I have counted loss on account of Christ. But surely I count also all things to be loss on account of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, on account of whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them refuse that I may gain Christ.” Paul was brought to the realization that the only gain in the universe was Christ Himself. To him Christ was the one reality of all. Nothing was real to him but Christ.

God’s plan is to work Christ into us, so throughout our life we need many conversions. Whenever there is something in your life substituting Christ, you need a conversion from that very thing to Christ Himself. We should always keep ourselves indirect contact with Christ. Then we will be one with Christ in reality. (A Young Man in God’s Plan, pp. 30, 32)
