행 15:5 그러나 바리새파에 속했다가 믿게 된 어떤 사람들이 일어나 말하였다. “이방인들에게도 할례를 주고 모세의 율법을 지키라고 명령해야 합니다.”

39 그래서 심한 다툼이 일어나 그들이 서로 갈라서니, 바나바는 마가를 데리고 배를 타고 키프로스로 갔다.

Acts 15:5 But certain men from the sect of the Pharisees who had believed rose up fromamong them, saying, It is necessary to circumcise them and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

39 And there was a sharp contention, so that they separated from each other; and Barnabas, taking Mark along, sailed away to Cyprus.

교회가 밖으로 확장될 때 사탄이 여러 부류의 사람들을 통해 세 가지 어려움을 가져다주었다. 이 세 가지 어려움은 교회의 확장을 제한하였다.

교회가 확장될 때 가장 먼저 직면하게 되는 어려움은 유대교의 제한과 묶임이었다(행 15:1-35). 당시 유대 땅에서 주님을 믿었던 유대인들은 여전히 유대교의 전통을 지키고 있었다. 그들은 유대교적인 관점으로 교회를 바라보았다. 그들은 교회를 유대교라는 상자 안에 집어넣으려했다. 사탄은 인간의 종교와 소위 경건함을 사용하여 교회의 확장을 제한했다. …유대인들은…그들이 하나님의 말씀을 가장 잘 준수한다고 여겼다. 사탄은 이것을 이용하여 교회를 심각하게 제한하였다.

교회가 이방인에게로 확장되기 시작했을 때…사탄은 유대교를 이용하여 이러한 확장을 제한하고 저지하고 방해하려고 하였다. 그러므로 우리는 여기에 있는 원칙을 반드시 인식해야 한다. 그것은 종교의 규례, 경배 방식, 성경 지식 등과 같이 경건하다고 여겨지는 것들이 항상 사탄에게 이용되어 교회를 제한한다는 것이다. 이 천년의 교회사를 통해 우리는 교회가 능력을 얻을 때마다 확장되었음을 본다. 그리고 이 능력은 종교적인 의식, 규례 그리고 죽은 문자를 돌파한 한 무리의 사람들에게 있었다.

한 면에서 우리는 당연히 성경 말씀을 지키고 진리의 가르침을 따라 성경의 빛 가운데서 살며 행동해야 한다. …그러나 또 다른 면에서 우리는 이러한 성경의 지식, 진리의 빛이 죽은 것인지 아니면 살아 있는 것인지를 물어 보아야 한다. 만약 그것들이 죽은 문자에 불과 하다면 교회를 제한하고 방해할 것이다. (교회의 세 방면(2), 교회의 발자취, 55-57쪽)

When the church was spreading, Satan created three problems through various people. These three problems limited the spread of the church.

The first problem encountered in the spread of the church was the limitation and bondage of Judaism (Acts 15:1-34). The believers in Judea were Jews who still kept the traditions of Judaism; they looked at the church from a Jewish viewpoint. They tried to put the church into the “box” of Judaism. Satan used human religion and so-called piety to limit the spread of the church. The Jews…considered themselves as those best able to keep God’s word. Satan used this thought to severely limit the church.

When the church was beginning to spread among the Gentiles …Satan used Judaism to limit, prevent, and frustrate this spread. This illustrates a principle that we must bear in mind: things that we consider to be pious, such as religious ordinances, forms of worship, and even Bible knowledge, are often used by Satan to limit the church. Throughout church history, each time the church has spread, it has been through a group of people whom God empowered to break through religious rituals, ordinances, and dead letters.

On the one hand, wes hould obey the Bible, walk inits light, and comply with the teachings of the truth.…On the other hand, however, we must ask ourselves whether our Bible knowledge and our light of the truth are dead or living. If we have only dead doctrines, this will limit and frustrate the church. (The Three Aspects of the Church, Book 2: The Course of the Church, pp. 37-38)

사도행전15장은 교회의 눈을 열어 주고 교회를 유대교의 억압에서 벗어나게 하였으며 교회를 예루살렘의 통제에서 벗어나게 하였다. 이것으로 말미암아 교회는 자유롭게 확장될 수 있었다. 사탄은 유대교와 예루살렘을 사용하여 교회의 확장을 통제하고 억압하고 금지하고 속박하려고 하였다. 그러나 하나님은 이방 지역으로 가셔야 했고, 땅 끝까지 이르셔야 했으며, 온 땅에서 그분의 아들의 증거를 갖기를 원하셨다. 바울에게는 참으로 이러한 이상이 있었다. 에베소서에서 바울은 하나님께서 이방인과 유대인 모두를 그리스도의 몸이 되게 하시기를 원하신다고 말했다(엡3:6).

외부적인 종교의 어려움은 해결 되었다. 그러나 바나바와 바울은 그들 내부에 있는 주관적인 어려움, 곧 두 사람이 불일치하는 상황에 부딪히게 되었다(행 15:36-41). 바나바는 마가를 데리고 함께 형제들을 돌보러가기를 원했으나 바울은 그것을 합당하지 않다고 여겨 그들 가운데 다툼이 일어나게 되었다. 사실 그들 두 사람의 다툼은 사탄이 저지른 일이었다. 당시 바나바와 바울, 두 사람이 한 마음 한 뜻이 될 수 없었기 때문에 교회의 확장은 매우 큰 손상을 받았다. …본래 함께 일하던 형제들이 서로 다른 의견이 생기게 되면 교회의 확장은 제한을 받는다.

바울과 바나바사이의 다툼은 교회 확장을 약화시켰다. 함께 일하였던 두 사도가 나누어져 바나바는 마가를 데리고 서쪽으로 나아가 키프로스로 갔고, 바울은 실라를 데리고 북으로 향하여 시리아와 길리기아로 갔다(행 15:39-41). 우리가 이 부분의 성경을 자세히 읽어 보면 성령의 뜻을 읽어낼 수 있다. 바울은 이전에 수고하였던 곳인 소아시아에 머물고 싶었지만, 성령은 바울이 그곳에 머무는 것을 금지하셨다(행 16:6). 후에 바울은 비두니아로 갈 생각을 하였으나 예수님의 영께서 허락하시지 않았다(행16:7). 이것은 왜 그런가? 이것은 다른 이유가 없고 다만 교회의 확장을 위해서였다. 성령은 교회를 확장시키시기 위해 바울에게 이상을 주시고 유럽으로 가게 하셨다. 바울은 이상을 보고 부담을 갖게 되었고 소아시아에서 바다를 건너 마케도니아로 갔다(행 16:9-12). 교회는 아시아에서부터 유럽으로 확장되었고 남으로는 아테네와 고린도의 도시들까지 확산되었다(행17:15, 18:1). Acts 15 opens the eyes of the church and allows the church to escape the bondage of Judaism and the rule of Jerusalem. Thus, the church can spread freely. Satan wanted to use Judaism and Jerusalem to control, limit, prohibit, and restrict the spread of the church. But God wanted to spread to the Gentiles, to the uttermost part of the earth. God wanted the whole earth to have the testimony of His Son. Paul had this vision. In his Epistle to the Ephesians he wrote that God wanted to make both Gentiles and Jews into the Body of Christ (3:6).

The problem of outward religion had been solved, but now they encountered an inward, subjective problem?Barnabas and Paul could not be in one accord (Acts 15:35-41). Barnabas wanted to take Mark to visit the brothers, but Paul felt it was not suitable, and an argument arose between them. Their argument was the work of Satan. The spread of the church was greatly damaged because Barnabas and Paul could not be in one accord.…When brothers who are co-workers have a difference of opinion, the spread of the church is limited.

The contention between Paul and Barnabas weakened the spread of the church. These two apostles, who had been working together, were now separated; Barnabas took Mark and went west to Cyprus, and Paul took Silas and went north to Syria and Cilicia(vv. 39-41). We must read this portion of the Bible very carefully in order to discover the thought of the Holy Spirit. Paul wanted to stay in Asia Minor where he had labored previously, but the Holy Spirit forbade him to remain there(16:6). Paul considered going to Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them(v. 7). For the sake of the spread of the church, the Holy Spirit gave Paul a vision calling him to Europe. After Paul saw the vision, he crossed the sea from Asia Minor to Macedonia(vv. 9-12). Thus, the church spread from Asia Minor to Europe and turned south to the cities of Athens and Corinth (17:15; 18:1).
