행 20:22-23 보십시오, 이제 나는 영 안에 매이어 예루살렘으로 갑니다. 내가 거기서 무슨 일을 당할는지 모르지만, 다만 내가 아는 것은 결박과 환난이 나를 기다리고 있다고 성령께서 각 도시에서 나에게 엄숙히 일러 주셨다는 사실입니다.

23:11 … 주님께서 바울 곁에 서서 말씀하셨다. “용기를 내어라. 네가 예루살렘에서 나에 관한 일들을 엄숙히 증언한 것처럼 로마 에서도 증언해야 한다.”

Acts 20:22-23 …Now, behold, I am going bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing what will meet me there, except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in city aftercity, saying that bond sand afflictions await me.

23:11 …The Lord stood by him and said, Take courage, for as you have solemnly testified to the things concerning Me in Jerusalem, so also you must testify in Rome.

바울이 예루살렘으로 돌아간 행동은 다섯 가지의 느낌과 가르침을 거스른 것이다. 먼저 바울은 성령께서 그에게 준 긍정적인 느낌에 순종하지 않았다. 그 다음은 성령께서 그에게 금지하는 느낌을 주셨음에도 불구하고 그는 듣지 않았다. 우리가 우리의 모든 움직임에서 흐름을 느끼지 못한다면, 우리가 하려고 하는 일에 문제가 있는 것이다. 셋째는 신언자 아가보가 예언적인 경고를 하였지만, 그는 그것을 듣지 않았다. 넷째는 몸의 느낌을 거슬렀다. 다섯째는 주님의 가르침의 분명한 말씀을 거슬렀다. 주님은 일찍이 한 성에서 만약 박해가 있다면 그 성에서 다른 성으로 도망치라고 말씀하셨다(마10:23). 바울은 사실 예루살렘으로 돌아갈 필요가 없었고, 돌아가야 할 만한 목적 또한 크지 않았을 뿐더러 고난이 그를 기다리고 있었다. 그가 예루살렘에 가기를 주장한 것은 전적으로 그의 낡고 타고난 관념과 관련된 것이었다.

바울은 감옥에 갇혀서 자유가 없는 상황에 처했을 지라도 깊은 공과를 배웠고 감옥에서 보배로운 많은 서신들을 썼다. 이것은 모두 우리가 부인할 수 없는 것이다. 그러나 우리는 또한 그 당시 바울이 예루살렘으로 돌아간 것이 교회의 확장에 장애가 되었음을 보아야 한다. 곧게 나아가지 않고 원을 그리며 움직이는 것은 언제나 어려움과 방해를 야기한다. 그 당시 바울은 반드시 고린도에 서로마로 계속 전진했어야 했다. 그러나 바울 안에 있는 낡은 요소들과 규례들이 그를 얽어매어 그를 예루살렘으로 돌아가게 했다. Paul’s return to Jerusalem went against five instances of feeling and teaching concerning the matter. First, the Holy Spirit gave him a positive feeling, but he did not obey it. Second, the Holy Spirit gavehima restricting feeling, but again he did not listen. In everymove, if we do not feel the flow, there is a problem with what we are doing. Third, Agabus gave him a prophetic warning, but Paul did not listen. Fourth, he went against the feeling of the Body. Fifth, he went against the clear word of the Lord’s teaching. The Lord said that if there is persecution in one city, we should

leave it and flee to another city(Matt. 10:23). Paul did not need to return to Jerusalem, he did not have any great purpose in going there, and there were sufferings awaiting him there. His insistence on going was related entirely to his old, natural concepts.

In spite of the inconvenience of his imprisonment, Paul learned a deep lesson and wrote many precious Epistles while in prison. We cannot deny this. Nonetheless, Paul’s return to Jerusalem was a hindrance to the spread of the church. It is always a problem and a frustration when we go in circles rather than a straight line. Paul should have gone straight to Rome from Corinth, but the elements of oldness within him and his attachments to the ordinances became an entanglement to him, causing him to go backward to Jerusalem. 만약 지난 이 천년 동안 주님의 종들이 계속 성령께서 전진하시도록 했었다면 교회는 오래 전에 성숙하였을 것이다. 만약 우리들이 원을 그리며 움직이는 것이 아니라 곧게 앞으로 움직인다면, 교회들은 증가되고 건축될 것이다. … 성령께서 만약 우리 안에서 곧바른 길을 걸어 가신다면, 교회의 확장은 결코 여기에서 멈추지 않을 것이다. 우리가 사람의 인정을 지나치게 돌보고 낡은 규례를 지킨다면, 이것은 교회의 확장에 가장 큰 장애가 된다. 주님께서 우리에게 긍휼을 베푸시기 원한다. 누구든지 주님의 긍휼을 받은 사람은 이러한 것들에서 구원받을 것이다. 우리가 구원받는 정도가 교회가 확산되고 건축될 수 있는 정도이다. 오늘날 네 종류의 일꾼들이 있다. 첫째 종류의 일꾼은 현시대의 하나님의 사역의 필요에 적합한 동역자들이다. 이러한 일꾼들은 주님께 처리를 받고 한 마음 한뜻 안에 있는 적은 무리의 사람들이다. 둘째 종류의 일꾼은 좀 더 젊은 동역자들이다. 그들은 기꺼이 연장한 동역자들의 지시를 받고, 그들과의 동역아래 있으며, 겸손하게 따르고 배우려고 한다. 셋째 종류의 일꾼은 앞 선동역자들에게 기꺼이 복종하려고 하지 않고, 교파에 속해 있지도 않으면서 우리와 계속 교통하기를 기뻐하는 사람들이다. 넷째 종류의 일꾼은 교파에 있는 설교자들과 자유 전도자들이다. 오늘날 우리에게 필요한 일꾼은 첫째와 둘째 종류의 동역자들이다.

동역자가 어느 지방에서 일할 때 그는 그곳의 교회와 동역해야 한다. 일과 교회는 서로 분리될 수 없다. 동역자가 한 지방에서 일할 때 그는 동시에 그 지방의 한 형제가 된다. 교회가 일을 형제들에게 할당할 때, 동역자들은 그 지방의 형제들과 동일한 입장에 서서 동일한 방식으로 할당된 일을 받아야한다.

셋째와 넷째 종류의 일꾼들에게 우리가 할 수 있는 것은 다만 그들이 자신의 길을 선택하도록 두는 것이다. … 우리는 다른 사람의 일을 간섭할 수 없으며, 여기에서 다른 사람들의 일을 허물지도 않을 것이다.

Over the past two thousand years, if the servants of the Lord had always allowed the Holy Spirit to go forward, the church would have matured long ago. If all of us move in a straight line without going in circles, the churches would multiply and be built up.…If the Holy Spirit has a straight way in us, the spread of the church would not be limited by us in any way. Any sympathy for human relationships and old ordinances will frustrate the spread of the church. May the Lord have mercy on us. Whoever receives mercy from the Lord will be saved in these matters. The degree to which we are saved is the degree to which the church can spread and be built up. (The Three Aspects of the Church, Book 2: The Course of the Church, p. 53)

Today there are four kinds of workers. The first are the coworkers who match the need of the ministry of God in the present age. This is a small group of people who have been dealt with by the Lord and who are in one accord. The second kind are the younger co-workers. They are willing to receive the direction and to come under the coordination of the older co-workers, and they are willing to follow and to learn in humility. The third kind are those who are unwilling to submit to the senior co-workers, who do not belong to the denominations, yet who are happy to remain in fellowship with us. The fourth kind are the preachers and free evangelists among the denominations. What we need today are the first and the second kind of co-workers.

When a co-worker is in a certain place, he has to cooperate with the local church in that place.The work and the church cannot be separated one from the other. Whena co-worker is working in a certain place, he is at the same time one of the local brothers. When the church assigns work to the saints, the co-workers should stand on the same ground as the local brothers and should accept assignments in the same way.

Concerning the third and the fourth kind of co-workers, we can only let them choose their own pathway.…We cannot interfere with others’ work, and we are not here tearing down others’ work.
