믿는 이들은 이중 신분을 갖고 있기 때문에 두 가지 방면을 가지고 있습니다. 이 이중 신분의 첫째 면은 생명과 관련이 있고, 둘째 면은 봉사와 관계가 있습니다. 어느 그리스도인도 이 두 면을 소홀히 해서는 안 됩니다. 그보다 우리는 두 가지 모두에 합당한 주의를 기울여서 생명에서나 봉사에서나 합당하게 되어야 합니다. 생명 면에서 우리는 처녀들이고, 봉사 면에서 우리는 노예들입니다. 처녀들에게는 주님이 신랑이시나, 노예들에게 그분은 주인이십니다. 이같이 우리만 이중 신분을 가진 것이 아니라 주님도 이중 신분을 갖고 계십니다. 한 편으로 그분은 우리의 즐거운 신랑이시고, 다른 한편으로 그분은 우리의 엄한 주인이십니다.

우리는 이 원칙에 깊은 인상을 받아야 합니다. 생명 면에서 우리는 속으로부터 새롭게 되어 야 하고, 봉사면에서 우리는 외적으로 매우 활동적이어야 합니다. 때때로 우리는 외적으로 너무 활동적이어서 내적인 새롭게 됨을 소홀히 합니다. 또 다른 때에는 속 생명을 너무 주의하기 때문에 충분히 일하지 않습니다. 이같이 되는 것은 뒤집지 않은 전병(호세아 7장 8 절)이 되는 것입니다. 한 쪽 면으로 우리는 숯처럼 타 버리고, 다른 한 쪽 면은 날 것 그대로입니다. 어느 쪽 면도 먹기에 마땅하지 않습니다. 우리는 뒤집어진 전병이 되어야 합니다. 만일 우리가 너무 많이 일한다면 주님은 우리에게 쉬라고 하실 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 너무 많이 쉰다면 주님은 일하라고 하실 것입니다.

Loving and Serving the Lord in a Balanced Way

Matthew 25:1 At that time the kingdom of the heavens will be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom. (14) For the kingdom of the heavens is just like a man about to go abroad, who called his own slaves and delivered to them his possessions.

The believers have these two aspects because they have a dual status. The first aspect of this dual status is related to life, and the second aspect is related to service. No Christian should neglect these two aspects; rather, we must pay the proper attention to both, becoming proper in life and in service. Regarding life, we are virgins; regarding service, we are slaves. To the virgins, the Lord is the Bridegroom. but to the slaves, He is the Master. Thus, not only we have a dual status, but the Lord also has a dual status. On the one hand, He is our pleasant Bridegroom and, on the other, our strict Master.

We need to be deeply impressed with this principle. Regarding the aspect of life, we need to be renewed from within, and regarding the aspect of service, we need to be very active outwardly. Sometimes we may be so active outwardly that we neglect the inward renewing. But at other times we may care so much for the inner life that we do not work adequately. To be like this is to be an unturned cake (Hosea 7:8). On one side we are burned to charcoal, and on the other side we are raw. Neither side is good for eating. We need to be a turned cake. If we work too much, the Lord will tell us to rest. But if we rest too much, the Lord will tell us to work. <생명의 양식>중에서 펌글
