Luke 1:78-79 Because of the merciful compassions of our God, in which the rising sun will visit us from on high, to shine upon those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

누가복음에 계시된 그리스도에 대한 체험과 누림에는 여러 방면이 있다. … 누가복음 1장 78절과 79절은 우리의 사람 구주께서 땅에서가 아니라 ‘높은 곳에서’ 오셨음을 계시하는데, 이것은 그분의 근원이 하늘들이라는 것을 가리킨다. 그분은 돋는 해로서 높은 곳에서 … 어둠과 죽음의 그늘에 앉아 있는 사람들에게 임하셨다. 구주 예수님은 어두운 시대에 돋는 해이시다. 그분께서 오실 때 구약의 밤이 끝나고 신약의 낮이 왔다. 우리에게 빛이 되시는 분으로서(요 9:5, 마 4:16) 그분은 하나님의 구속의 성취자와 중심이 되시어 그분의 백성에게 구원을 가져다주신다.

[There are several] aspects of the experience and enjoyment of Christ revealed in Luke.…[Luke 1:78-79 reveals] that our human Savior came not from the earth but from “on high,”indicating that His source is the heavens. He came from the heavens as the rising sun…to those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death. Jesus the Savior was the dawning sun to the dark age. His coming ended the night of the Old Testament and began the day of the New Testament. As the One who is light to us (John 9:5; Matt. 4:16), He is the accomplisher and the center of God’s redemption that His people may obtain salvation.

Christ has shined upon us in order to guide our feet into the way of peace. When we were in darkness and in the shadow of death, we were walking on a way in which there was no peace. However, now that we have been saved, having received Christ as our Savior, we can testify that we are in the way of peace. Our feet are being guided to take the peaceful way. The Christian life is a life of peace. This is altogether due to Christ’s shining. (The Conclusion of the New Testament, pp. 2827-2828)

천사들은 사람-구주의 출생을 모든 백성에게 큰 기쁨을 주는 좋은 소식으로서 목자들에게 전했다(눅 2:8-10). 누가복음 2장 11절에서 천사는 “오늘 다윗의 동네에서 여러분에게 구주가 나셨으니, 곧 그리스도 주님이십니다.”라고 선포한다. 요한복음 4장 42절에서 주 예수님은 세상의 구주로 언급되신다. 그리스도는 우리를 구원하시는 구주이시다. 그리스도는 그분의 인격과 구속의 일에 근거하여 타락한 인류의 구주가 되신다. 그분은 영원히 존재하시는 삼일 하나님으로서 사람이 되시어 우리의 구주가 되셨고, 죄인들인 우리를 위해 완전한 구속을 성취하셨으며, 이 구속을 통하여 그분은 지금 하나님의 유죄 판결과 우리의 타락한 상태에서 우리를 구원하신다.

누가복음 2장 32절은 그리스도께서 이방인들에게 계시하는 빛이시요, 주님의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이시라고 말한다. … 32절에서 말하는 ‘계시하는 빛’은 … 우리에게 계시를 가져다주는 일종의 빛 비춤을 언급하며, … 이것에 의해 우리는 인생의 비밀과 의미, … 그리고 그리스도의 인격과 일을 알게 된다.

그리스도는 … 또한 하나님의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이시다. … 이스라엘 백성은 그들에게 영광과 빛이 되시는 사람 구주이신 그리스도를 거절하였기 때문에 그들의 영광을 잃어버렸다. … 그러나 그들이 그리스도를 받아들일 때, 사람 구주이신 그분은 그들의 영광이 되실 것이다.

주님을 자신의 집에 초대한 바리새인 시몬은, 주님께서 죄 많은 여인이 눈물로 그분의 발을 적시고 머리털로 닦고 그 발에 다정하게 입 맞추고 향유를 바르도록 허락하는 것을 보고서 난처해했다. 그러자 주 예수님은 시몬에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “돈을 빌려 주는 어떤 사람에게 빚을 진 두 사람이 있었는데, 한 사람은 오백 데나리온을, 또 한 사람은 오십 데나리온을 빚졌습니다. 그러나 그 두 사람에게는 갚을 것이 아무것도 없었으므로, 돈을 빌려 주는 그 사람이 은혜를 베풀어 둘 다 탕감해 주었습니다. 그러면 그들 중에 누가 그를 더 사랑하겠습니까?”(눅 7:41-42) 시몬은 자신이 아닌 그 여인만을 죄인이라고 생각했다. 그러나 구주의 비유는 주님은 돈 빌려 주는 사람이시고, 바리새인 시몬과 여인은 모두 그분께 빚진 죄인으로서 그분의 용서가 필요하다는 것을 가리킨다. 오늘날 우리는 모두 돈 빌려 주는 사람이신 주 예수님께 빚진 사람이다. 우리는 그분께 빚진 사람이고, 그분은 우리에게 돈을 빌려 주신 분이시다.

주님은 이 비유에서 빚진 두 사람이 돈 빌려 준 사람에게 갚을 돈이 전혀 없었기 때문에 돈 빌려 준 사람이 은혜를 베풀어 둘 다 탕감해 주었다고 말씀하신다. 이것은 죄인들이 하나님께 빚을 갚을 만한 것이 전혀 없다는 것을 가리킨다. 그럴지라도 하나님은 은혜를 베푸시어 그분께 빚진 모든 사람을 탕감해 주셨다. … 돈을 빌려 준 사람은 자신에게 빚진 사람들에게 아무것도 받지 않고 사랑만 받았다. … 주님의 은혜로운 용서를 체험할 때 우리는 사랑으로 그분께 반응한다. 그러나 우리의 사랑은 우리가 그분의 용서를 얼마나 체험했느냐에 따라 그 정도가 다르다. The birth of the Man-Savior was announced to shepherds by an angel as good news of great joy to all people (Luke 2:8-10). In verse 11 the angel declared, “Today a Savior has been born to you in David’s city, who is Christ the Lord.” In John 4:42 the Lord Jesus is referred to as the Savior of the world. Christ is the Savior in order to save us. He is the Savior of fallen mankind based upon His person and His redemptive work. He is the ever-existing Triune God who became a man to be our Savior, and He has accomplished full redemption for us, the sinners, through which He may now save us from God’s condemnation and from our fallen condition.

Luke 2:32 tells us that Christ is a light for revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of God’s people Israel.…The expression a light for revelation in verse 32…refers to a kind of shining, a kind of enlightening, that brings revelation to us…[whereby we know] the mystery and the meaning of human life…[and] the person and work of Christ.

Christ is…also the glory of God’s people Israel.…The people of Israel have lost their glory because they have rejected Christ, the human Savior, who is to them the light as their glory.…But when they receive Christ,

He, the human Savior, will become their glory. Simon, a Pharisee who had invited Him to his house, was troubled by the fact that He allowed a sinful woman to wet His feet with her tears, to wipe them with her hair, to kiss them affectionately, and to anoint them with ointment. Speaking to Simon, the Lord Jesus said, “A certain money lender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty.

But since they had nothing with which to repay, he graciously forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him more?” [7:41-42]. Simon considered only the woman, not himself, a sinner. However, the Savior’s parable indicated that He was the moneylender and that both Simon the Pharisee and the woman were sinners?debtors to Him? needing His forgiveness. Today we all are in debt to the Lord Jesus as the moneylender. We are His debtors, and He is our creditor. In His parable the Lord said that since the two debtors had nothing with which to repay the moneylender, he graciously forgave them both. This indicates that sinners have nothing with which to repay their debt to God their Savior. Nevertheless, He forgives all His debtors graciously.…From his debtors the moneylender did not receive repayment?e received love.…When we experience the Lord’s gracious forgiveness, we respond with love for Him. However, our love may differ in degree, depending on how much we have experienced His forgiveness. (The Conclusion of the New Testament, pp. 2828-2831)
