우리를 대항하는 기도를 하는 사람들이 있을 수 있다. 따라서 우리는 특별히 우리가 수행하는 일과 교회와 나의 인도에 대항하는 기도를 주님께서 거절하시도록 간구할 필요가 있다. 우리가 주님 앞에서 드리는 기도들은, 이러한 역(逆)-기도들에 맞서고 대항하는 것이어야 한다. 주님께서 우리를 덮어주시고 대적에게 우리를 손상시킬 수 있는 어떤 입지도 허락하시지 않기를 바란다.

우리는 영적인 전쟁을 하는 기도가 필요하다. 그러나 우리는 또한 일의 다양한 방면들을 위해 또한 이 새로운 시대에서 주님의 새로운 움직임 안에 있는 다양한 필요들을 위해 기도해야 한다. …우리는 하나님의 일에 행운이 없으며 노력 없이 얻어지는 일도 없다는 것을 기억해야 한다. 더욱이 우리가 수고하고 애쓴다고 해서 성공이 보장되는 것도 아니다. 우리는 영적인 전쟁에 참여하고 있다는 것을 반드시 깨달아야 한다. …우리는 분투하고 싸워야 하며 기도를 통해 모든 입지를 조금도 남기지 않고 소유해야 한다.

우리가 함께 기도할 때마다, 나는 모든 사람이 동시에 기도하는 것이 아니라 한 사람씩 기도하기를 바란다. 우리의 기도는 너무 소리가 크거나 길어서는 안 된다. 우리의 기도는 짧고 살아 있으며, 이전의 기도 위에 또 다른 기도를 더해가면서, 모든 기도를 묶어 하나의 강하고 능력 있는 기도가 되게 해야 한다. …우리의 기도는 하나님의 표준과 요구를 충족시켜야 하고 그분의 갈망과 일치해야 한다.

There may be some who are praying counter prayers. Hence, we must ask the Lord to resist prayers that are directed particularly against the work we are carrying out, against the church, and against my leading. The prayers we utter before the Lord must stand against these counter prayers. May the Lord cover us and not allow the enemy to have any ground to do damage.

We need prayers to fight the spiritual warfare. But we also need to pray for the various aspects of the work and the different needs in the Lord’s new move in this new age.…We need to remember that in God’s work, there is no such thing as sheer luck, no such thing as gaining without effort. Moreover, there is no guarantee that if we labor and endeavor, we will succeed. We must realize that we are engaged in spiritual warfare.…We need to struggle, fight, and take possession of every inch through prayer.

Whenever we pray together, I hope that everyone will pray, not praying simultaneously but one after another. Our prayers should not be too loud or lengthy. They should be short and living, adding to the one before, so that all the prayers can be joined together as one strong, powerful prayer.…Our prayers [should] meet God’s standard and requirement and be according to His desire.

Regardless of the time and place, we must be led by the Lord to cry out to Him and to call on Him to touch His throne?not merely the throne of grace but the throne of authority. I hope that each of us would [receive this burden and] pray from our spirit. 오늘날 주님의 회복 안에서 합당한 교회생활을 갖기 위하여 선행되어야할 것은 기도 생활을 하는 것이다. 합당한 교회는 기도하는 교회이다. 기도가 없는 교회는 가련하다. 기도하지 않는 것은 죄이다(삼상 12:23). 주님의 회복 안에 있는 모든 사람은 반드시 기도로 충만해야 하고 기도하지 않는 죄에 맞서야 한다. 교회들 안에 있는 장로들은 ‘무엇보다도’기도하라는 바울의 명령을 받아들여야 한다(딤전2:1).

우리는 또한 성도들 사이에 있는 문제들에 대하여 들을 때마다 기도해야 한다. 우리는 우리가 문제들을 푸는데 있어서 경험이 있고 자격이 있다고 여겨서는 안 된다. 그와 같은 태도는 주제넘은 것일 뿐만 아니라 또한 하나님을 모독하는 것이다. 왜냐하면 그것은 우리 자신을 하나님으로 여기는 것이기 때문이다. 만일 우리가 형제들 사이에 있는 문제들에 관해 듣는다면 우리는 이 문제를 우리의 기도 안에서 주님께 가져가야 한다.

교회를 돌보는데 있어서 장로들이 첫 번째 해야 할 것은 기도이다. 기도가 없이는 결정하지 말라. 먼저 어떤 사람을 위해 기도하지 않은 채 그를 비판하거나 칭찬하지 말라. 어떤 일을 하기 전에 우리는 기도해야 한다. 더욱이 우리의 기도는 가볍거나 피상적이어서는 안 되며 철저해야 한다. 우리는 어떤 문제를 위하여 철저히 기도한 후에야 그것에 대해 결정해야 한다. 우리 스스로 독립적으로 결정하지 않고 주님의 인도에 따라 주님과 하나 되어 그것에 관하여 결정해야 한다. 만일 장로들이 이러한 방식으로 실행한다면, 우리 지방의 교회 생활은 높여지고 합당하게 될 것이다.

디모데전서 2장 1절에서 바울은 간구와 기도와 중보기도와 감사를 언급한다. 기도는 일반적인 것이며 경배와 교통을 본질로 한다. 간구는 특별한 것이며 특별한 필요를 위한 것이다. …중보기도는 다른 사람들의 유익을 위하여 그들의 문제를 하나님 앞에서 중재하고 조정하는 것을 의미한다. 이에 더하여 우리는 감사를 드려야 한다. …만일 어떤 교회의 상황이 좋다면 그것은 하나님께로 말미암은 것이지 그 교회로 말미암은 것이 아니다. 마찬가지로 만일 어떤 장로나 성도가 잘 행한다면 그것 또한 하나님의 은혜로 말미암은 것이다. 그러므로 어떤 교회나 어떤 사람을 칭찬하기보다 우리는 하나님께 감사를 드려야 한다. A prerequisite for having a proper church life in the Lord’s recovery today is to have a prayer life. A proper church is a praying church. A church that is without prayer is pitiful. Prayerlessness is a sin [1 Sam.12:23]. All in the Lord’s recovery must be prayerful and stand against the sin of prayerlessness.The elders in the churches must take up Paul’s charge to “first of all” pray [1 Tim. 2:1].

We should also pray whenever we hear of problems among the saints. We should not presume that we are experienced and qualified to solve problems. Such an attitude is not only presumptuous; it is also blasphemous, for it is to consider ourselves as God. If we learn about a problem between brothers, we should bring this matter to the Lord in our prayer.

The first thing the elders should do in caring for the church is pray. Do not make decisions without praying. Do not either criticize someone or praise him without first praying for him. Before doing anything, we need to pray. Furthermore, our prayers should not be light or superficial; they must be thorough. Only after we have prayed for a matter thoroughly should we make a decision concerning it,not by ourselves independently, but in oneness with the Lord and according to His leading. If the elders practice in this way the church life in our locality will be uplifted and proper.

In 2:1 Paul mentions petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings. Prayer is general, with the essence of worship and fellowship. Petitions are special and are for particular needs.… [Intercessions are an] intervening, interfering, before God in others’ affairs for their benefit. In addition, we must offer thanksgiving.… If the situation in a certain church is good, it is because of God, not because of the church. Likewise, if a particular elder or saint is doing well, it also is because of God’s grace. Therefore, instead of praising a church or a person, we should give thanks to God.
