행 27:22-24 이제 또 내가 여러분에게 권합니다. 기운을 내십시오. 여러분 가운데 한 사람도 목숨을 잃지 않을 것이고, 배만 잃을 것입니다. 내가 속해 있고 또 내가 섬기는 하나님, 그분의 천사가 바로 이 밤에 내 곁에 서서 말하였습니다. ‘바울이여, 두려워하지 마십시오. 그대가 반드시 가이사 앞에 서야 합니다. 보십시오, 하나님께서 그대와 함께 항해하는 모든 사람을 그대에게 주셨습니다.’

Acts 27:22-24 And now I advise you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For this very night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood by me, saying, Do not fear, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who are sailing with you.

주님은 사도를 폭풍이 이는 바다 위에서 함께 항해하는 사람들의 주인으로 만아니라(행 27:24), 생명의 보증인과 위로자로 삼으셨다(행 27:22, 25). 더 나아가 이제 평온한 육지에서 주님은 그를, 미신적인 사람들이 보기에 신기한 매력을 지닌 사람으로만 아니라(행 28:3-6), 그들의 치료자와 기쁨이 되게 하셨다(행28:8-9).

사도가 오랫동안 감금된 채 순탄하지 않은 항해를 계속하는 동안, 주님은 사도를 그분의 초월 안에 있게 하시고 염려가 없는 삶을 살 수 있게 하셨다. 가장 뛰어난 신성한 속성들을 표현하는 최고 수준의 인간 미덕들을 지닌 이러한 삶은 완전히 위엄 있는 삶이었으며, 수 년 전에 주님 자신이 이 땅에서 사셨던 삶과 닮은 삶이었다. 이것은 예수님께서 신성하게 부요해진 인성 안에서 또다시 이 땅에 사시는 것이었다! 이것은 복음서들에서 사셨던, 놀랍고 탁월하고 비밀한 하나님-사람께서 그분의 많은 지체 중 한 사람을 통해 사도행전에서 계속해서 사시는 것이었다! 이 사람은 육체가 되시고 십자가에 못 박히시고 부활하시고 하나님께서 높이신 그리스도의 살아 있는 증인이었다! 바울은 항해하는 동안 그리스도를 살며 확대했다(빌 1:20-21). 사람들이 극진한 예우를 갖추어(행28:10), 즉 지대한 존경과 최고의 경의로 그와 그의 일행들을 예우한 것은 당연한 일이다! On the sea in the storm, the Lord had already made the apostle not only the owner of his fellow voyagers (Acts 27:24), but also their life-guarantee and comforter (vv. 22-25).Now on the land in peace, the Lord made him further not only a magical attraction in the eyes of the superstitious people (28:3-6), but also a healer and joy to the native people (vv. 8-9). All during his long and unfortunate imprisonment-voyage, the Lord kept the apostle in His ascendancy and enabled him to live a life far beyond the realm of anxiety, but fully dignified with the highest standard of human virtues expressing the most excellent divine attributes, a life that resembled the one that He Himself had lived on earth years before. This was Jesus living again on the earth in His divinely enriched humanity! This was the wonderful, excellent, and mysterious God-man, who lived in the Gospels, continuing to live in Acts through one of His many members! This was a living witness of the incarnated, crucified, resurrected, and God-exalted Christ. Paul in his voyage lived and magnified Christ. No wonder the people honored him and his companions with many honors (v. 10), that is, with the best respect and highest regard! (Life study of Acts, p. 617)

로마에서 온 형제들의 따스한 환영과 보디올에 있는 형제들의 사랑스런 돌봄(행 28:13-14)은 초기에 교회들과 사도들 사이에 있었던 아름다운 몸의 생활을 보여 준다. 이러한 생활은 사탄이 어둡게 한 땅, 곧 사람이 거주하는 땅 위에 있는 하늘에 속한 왕국 생활의 일부였다. 겉으로 보기에는 사도가 결박당한 죄수로서 사탄이 점령한 제국의 어두운 수도의 영역 안으로 들어간 것 같다. 그러나 사실상 그는 그리스도의 권위를 가진 그리스도의 대사(엡6:20, 마28:18-19)로서 이 땅 위에 이루어진 하나님의 왕국 안에 있는 그리스도의 교회, 곧 몸의 생활의 또 다른 한 부분에 들어가 거기에 참여한 것이다. 그는 사탄의 제국 안에서 종교의 박해를 받고 있는 동안에도 하나님의 왕국 안에서 교회 생활을 누리고 있었다. 이것은 그에게 위로와 격려가 되었다.

사도행전 28장 15절에 의하면, 바울은 형제들을 보았을 때 하나님께 감사하며 용기를 얻었다. 이것은 사도가 매우 인간적이었다는 것을 가리킨다. 그는 주님께 직접 격려를 받았고(행 23:11), 항해하는 동안 내내 담대했지만(행 27:22-25, 33-36), 여전히 형제들의 따스한 영접에 용기를 얻었다. 그가 항해하는 동안, 바로 이러한 인간 미덕들을 지닌 그의 높아진 인성 안에서 신성한 속성들을 지니신 그리스도께서 표현되셨다. 그는 어려운 상황에서도 계속적으로 그리스도를 확대했다(빌 1:20).

바울이 로마에 도착하기 전에 그곳 형제들은 그와 그의 일행에 관한 소식을 듣고 아피온 광장과 트레이스 타베르네라는 곳까지 그들을 맞으러 나왔다. …아마 바울이 청함을 받아 칠 일 동안 머물렀던 보디올의 몇몇 형제들이 그때 그를 만나러 로마에서 온 형제들에게 소식을 전했던 것 같다. …우리는 고대 시대의 교회생활, 매우 즐거운 교회생활의 모습을 본다. 우리는 오늘날 그러한 즐거운 교회생활을 해야 하며 이러한 구절들에 제시된 본을 따라야 한다.

사도행전 28장에서 로마를 보고자 하는 바울의 갈망이 이루어졌다. 유대교도들은 그가 이방인들에게로 가는 것을 방해했지만 주님은 주권적으로 바울을 로마로 인도하셨다. 고대 시대에 예루살렘에서 로마로 여행하는 것은 큰 일이었다. 그러나 주님은 바울을 머나먼 이방 땅, 곧 로마 제국의 수도에까지 이끄셨다. 바울은 로마에 도착했을 때 틀림없이 기쁨으로 충만했을 것이다. 외적으로는 그가 결박당해 있었지만 내적으로는 영광과 말할 수 없는 기쁨으로 충만했다. (사도행전 라이프 스타디, 메시지 71, 603-605쪽)

The warm welcome of the brothers from Rome and the loving care of those in Puteoli (Acts 28:13-14) show the beautiful Body life in the early days among the churches and the apostles. This life was a part of the heavenly kingdom life on the Satan darkened and man-inhabited earth. Apparently the apostle, as a prisoner in bonds, had entered the area of the dark capital of the Satan-usurped empire. Actually, as the ambassador of Christ with His authority (Eph. 6:20; Matt. 28:18-19), he had come into another part of the participation in His church’s Body life in the kingdom of God on earth. While h ewas suffering the persecution of religion in the empire of Satan, he was enjoying the church life in the kingdom of God, which was a comfort and an encouragement to him.

According to Acts 28:15, when Paul saw the brothers, he thanked God and took courage. This indicates that the apostle was quite human. Although he was encouraged by the Lord directly (23:11) and he was very courageous all the way in his voyage (27:22-25, 33-36), he still took courage at the brothers’ warm welcome. It was in Paul’s uplifted humanity with its human virtues that Christ with His divine attributes was expressed in his voyage. He magnified Christ all the way in his adverse situation (Phil. 1:20).

Before Paul arrived in Rome, the brothers there heard news concerning him and his companions and came to meet them as far as the Market of Appius and Three Inns.…Perhaps some brothers from Puteoli, where Paul was urged to remain seven days, brought the news to the brothers in Rome, who then came to meet him. …Here we see a picture of the church life in ancient times, a church life thatwas very enjoyable. We need to have such an enjoyable church life today and follow the pattern presented in these verses.

In chapter twenty-eight Paul’s desire to see Rome was fulfilled. The Judaizers had tried to frustrate him from going to the Gentiles, but the Lord sovereignly brought Paul to Rome. It was a great matter in the ancient times to make a journey from Jerusalem to Rome. But the Lord brought Paul far into the Gentile world, even into the capital of the Roman empire. Paul must have been full of joy when he arrived in Rome. Outwardly he was in bonds, but inwardly he was full of glory and unspeakable joy. (Life-study of Acts, pp. 618-619)
