어떤 곳에 이르렀을 때 해가 저물어 그곳에서 밤을 지내게 되었다. 그는 그곳에 있는 돌 하나를 가져다가 머리에 베고 누워 잠을 잤다. (창 28:11)

And he came to a certain place and spent the night  there, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head, and he lay down in that place. (Gen. 28:11)

야곱은 돌을 베개로 사용했다. 이것은 우리가 그리스도를 주관적으로 체험함으로써 그리스도의 신성한 요소가 우리의 존재 안으로 조성되어(만족을 포함하는) 우리의 안식을 위한 베개가 되는 것, 다시 말하면 우리 안에서 견고한 버팀대가 되는 것을 상징한다 ―비교 마 11:28.
